Hi! I am Lexus Diaz, Vice President of Ad & Promo. I am currently a freshman majoring in Marketing with an emphasis in Advertising and Promotion, as well as a double major in International Business. I was born in Carthage, Missouri, where I spent my life making hobbies and friends. I love listening to music, hanging out with friends/family, photography, watching scary movies (even though I get scared, but still watch them for fun!), and more! I also really want to travel the world, which is why I’m doing Education Abroad and hoping I can study abroad one day. When I get out of college, I hope to have a job in the marketing industry, whether that be in beauty, fashion, or entertainment. I haven’t thought too much about it, but I just love to be creative and try new things.
When I first heard about AMA was my friend Perla, who is VP of Website Development. As a freshman, I am eager to get involved around campus as much as I can and join many organizations as well as meet people who share the same career goal as me. That’s when I decided to attend the 1st AMA meeting. I was super nervous at first, not knowing anyone, besides Perla, but when I first sat down alone, Sarah came to me with open arms. She spoke with me and made me feel at ease, and we even had an activity to do at our first meeting, which made it enjoyable.
So far, every meeting I felt like I was really part of the ‘f-AMA-ly’, and I even applied for an executive position. With the Resume Roast that we had in the fall, seeing everyone's resumes and roasting them politely to give them feedback to improve their resume was fun. As well as our bonding experience at Friendsgiving with so much food and playing games. And I can say I love my position as VP of Ad & Promo, I get to be creative and responsible for promoting the events and affairs of the collegiate chapters.
Since joining AMA, I have learned how to be confident in myself as a leader and to work together with other executive board members. In my role, I also have to work with our VP of Social Platforms. I have also learned how important it is to build a community where people feel welcome with open arms and create a space for growth.
AMA provides many opportunities, like encouraging creative and strategic thinking, building character, and confidence. It can help you build out your strongest skills to prepare you for future career opportunities you can have. As well as our biggest event, “International College Conference” in Chicago, which I can not wait for, and where more opportunities await. As for someone who doesn’t know what club they want to go to and is looking for a close community where they can succeed and grow, join AMA. You also don’t have to be a Marketing major to join. We welcome anybody to join our ‘f-AMA-;y’!!
