Vice President of Membership
Vice President of Membership

Hello! My name is Javier Carreon. I am a junior at Missouri State, majoring in Marketing, with an emphasis in Advertising and Promotion. I am originally from Kansas City, Missouri, where I completed two years of community college before transferring to Missouri State this past fall. On campus, I am the current Vice President of Membership for AMA. I am also involved in the Entertainment Management Association and Advertising Club here on campus. More personally, I love music, spending time with friends, going on random “side quests”, and living the “do it for the plot” mentality. Career-wise, I am hoping to work within the entertainment marketing industry in the future, whether that be for a music artist, venue, or even sports.

I first heard about AMA through social media and Missouri State’s website in the list of business-related organizations. As someone who was coming into MSU as a junior transfer student, I was eager to join many organizations and meet people who share the same career goals as I do. That is when I decided to attend AMA’s first meeting and was instantly welcomed with open arms. Naturally, I tend to gravitate towards leadership positions in organizations that I am a part of, so it came as no surprise when I was eager to run for an executive position for AMA. The main reason I wanted to run for the Vice President of Membership position was because I was instantly drawn to the fact that when I walked into that first meeting, I instantly felt like I was a part of the ‘f-AMA-ly’, and I want to continue that with any new member coming in for the first time.

I was inspired especially by my fellow executive board member, Sarah Jeon, who held my position during the last term. I appreciated the way she was able to energize each meeting and make people truly feel involved and appreciated. It made AMA far more enjoyable and worth allotting time for in my already busy schedule. Now, as the Vice President of Membership, I am that figure who will strive to keep people coming to our events and being a part of this organization.

Throughout my experience in AMA, I have gained confidence not only in myself as a leader but as a professional who is soon to step into the workforce. AMA has taught me how to be self-assured in my own capabilities and skills so that I can provide my best foot forward in whatever future encounter I may find myself in. I have also learned how important it is to build a community where people feel welcomed and create a space for growth and vulnerability. AMA will challenge you to think creatively, tactically, and strategically, which, all in all, will help someone become a stronger marketer.

I think someone should consider joining AMA if they are looking for a close community that strives to see each other succeed and grow into strong professionals. One piece of advice that I want to give to new or future members is to always ask, “Where can I help?” Even if you aren’t confident in your abilities to lead a group, simply asking if there is anything you can do will open up opportunities to grow and to be involved. No task is ever too big or too small, and we are always encouraging participation and support! We can’t wait for the events we have planned, and we hope that anyone reading this would consider joining our “f-AMA-ly”!
